Body Image

Anxiety about body image issues can affect individuals of all ages.

However, the rapid rise of social media and smartphones has had a profound impact on teenagers and children, subjecting them to immense pressure that can negatively affect their mental well-being.

Body image concerns have existed for a long time, but the advent of technology has led to a shift in how young people compare themselves. Instead of their classmates, they now often compare themselves to celebrities, which can be particularly detrimental to their mental health.

While it’s true that many images in the media and online portray idealized models that are far removed from reality, it can be challenging to help teenagers recognize this.

Engaging in regular physical activity, maintaining a balanced diet, and avoiding unhealthy food choices are all beneficial habits. However, if these habits become excessive or obsessive, they can lead to serious mental health issues such as anorexia, bulimia, bigorexia, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
